I’m sure you appreciate your dad and try to show him that every day you have with him; but Father’s Day allows us the opportunity to make a special effort to show our dads how much they mean to us. I look forward to my daughter making me a card or drawing a picture of us enjoying some activity. On the flip side my brother and I always struggled figuring out what to get or do for our dad on Father’s Day.
Deciding on gift ideas for dad are slightly harder than those for mom, and as I mentioned, I blank out at times. So I’ve researched some great gifts you can make/buy for dad, and fun activities to do with him; all at a cost that won’t take a huge bite out of your bank account (or piggy bank). Hopefully this article can stare you towards some creative and memorable options.
Gift Ideas for Dad
Admittedly buying a gift for your dad is the normal go-to thing to do on Father’s Day. But sometimes, some suggested gift ideas can seem a bit… ‘generic’. So here are some extra-special gifts you can get your dad.
Getting A Unique Gift Online, Specifically Fitted To Your Dad
A great example of this can be searching through sites such as fivver.com for people who offer original and unique services that you can request in time for Father’s Day. There are many different ideas you can choose from, at the price of only $10 or less
Having A Watercolor Portrait of Your Dad Made
You can choose a picture of your dad that you’d like to forever have immortalized, and a short note to go with it done into a watercolor portrait. From there you can print out the attachment; and there you have it, a great gift unique for your dad.
Turning A Favorite Book Cover Into A Miniature Charm
This can be a great idea if your dad is an avid reader. Find out what his ultimate favorite book is, even if you have to ask him directly. You can then send in the order, with the book you’d like done; and get a miniature varnished paper charm that he can attach to his key ring set, or a plain necklace chain just be sure to put it into something he’d like.
Creating Your Dad Into A Beer Label
If your dad loves his beer, this could be the perfect unique gift. Find out what his favorite brand of beer is and send it in with your favorite picture of him. You can then get the finished product printed out and frame it for him. This is something that he will always be proud of and to show off; he’ll feel like a famous beer connoisseur.
Make A Gift Pack of His Favorite Foods/Drinks
Pleasing us guys is easy when it comes to our favorite foods or drinks. This can be used for any food or drink ‘weakness’ that we like to indulge in; and it doesn’t even need to cost the world. It can be a simple thing like snacks; such as mixed nut packs, gift voucher to our favorite steak house. You can get our favorite brand of whiskey, six pack of beer, bottle of wine, etc. Just be sure you get something that’s in your price range.
Any Targeted Gifts
This can range from NFL football leather coasters (for the sport enthusiast dad); to sets of guitar glasses (for the music enthusiast dad); and even ‘dad clocks’ (for the working dad). These gifts can come to less than $40 each. Getting a gift for dad needn’t be one that breaks the bank. Most of us just appreciate the thought.
Fun Activities To Do With Your Dad
Father’s Day ideas doesn’t always have to revolve around just bought items. If your dad is still physically active a great change of ‘gifts’ could be outdoor activities that dad enjoys. This can possibly be one of the most personal gifts, as you can get out and spend some quality time with dad, always an important thing.
Going Out To Play Golf Or Mini-Golf
This is something you can do as an adult, or a kid. Your dad doesn’t need to be a golf pro for you two to do together. You can go to a mini-golf course for dads with small children; this is an age-old family activity that never fails to be enjoyable for all. For older or adult children, going to a golfing range can be a just-as enjoyable outing for dad and child alike.
Paintball
This is something that you can do with your dad as either an older or adult child. Paintball is a fast-paced, friendly-battle game. Engage the youthful warrior in your dad; and create a war of the generations. Playing paintball never fails to bring out the child-like competition for both child and dad, and create a memorable activity that can be reminisced for months and years to come.
Camping
Camping is definitely one of the age-old traditions passed down through the generations. If your dad is the outdoor-loving type, this could be one of the most perfect gift activities. Although you can do this with dad year-round; do what you can make the father’s day weekend one to remember. Of course this is something that will be best on a low budget, if you already have most of the equipment. Buying a ton of camping equipment specifically for it may not be the best plan; unless you have the money and camping will not be only a one-off activity. Camp fires, fishing, hiking, and all else that comes with camping will be something that both of you can remember for the rest of your times together.
Ultimately…
Father’s Day isn’t a special day that needs to revolve around gift-buying. Your main aim of this day is to create memories with your dad that can last a lifetime, and spend quality time with your dad, especially if you don’t do so often. Your dad is not focusing on how much you spend on him. In actuality, dads are more likely to enjoy a ‘gift’ of bonding and effort to spend time with him, compared to receiving a gift that is often not as personal.
